The Denver Nuggets pay a visit to the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Denver Nuggets have been in a major slump as they’ve lost five of their last six games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting beaten by the Knicks in a 116-110 road loss last night. Jamal Murray led the team with 25 points and six assists on nine of 14 shooting, Nikola Jokic added 24 points with 10 rebounds and eight assists while Aaron Gordon chipped in with 14 points and seven assists. As a team, the Nuggets shot 51 percent from the field and 12 of 33 from the 3-point line as they poured in 39 points in the second quarter to erase an early 13-point deficit, but they couldn’t maintain that pace, scoring just 43 points in the second half to allow the Knicks to run them down in a disappointing finish.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been in decent shape as they’ve won five of their last eight games overall, but they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid in this one after coming up short to the streaking Kings in a 101-96 loss on Thursday. Mikal Bridges led the team with 23 points, Spencer Dinwiddie added 18 points with seven assists while Nic Claxton chipped in with 14 points and 14 rebounds. As a team, the Nets shot just 41 percent from the field and 14 of 39 from the 3-point line as they struggled to get going and managed just 17 points in the second quarter to trail by as many as 17 points, before they rallied in the fourth quarter to make it interesting in the final minutes.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a winning record and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. The Nets are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Head to head, the over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings in Brooklyn, the Nuggets are 0-3-1 ATS in the last four meetings in Brooklyn and the Nuggets are 1-4-1 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Nuggets are still without Collin Gillespie, while the Nets are still missing Ben Simmons. The Nuggets are mired in their worst slump of the season despite being just about at full health and their confidence took another shot to the guts after falling to the Knicks last night. The Nets have been travelling much better lately and they were more than competitive in a narrow loss to the red-hot Kings on Thursday, so I’m backing them to take advantage of this struggling Nuggets team who are playing their second game of a back to back set.
