The Washington Wizards travel to the Wells Fargo Center to battle the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday night.
The Washington Wizards have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their last five games overall and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting beaten by the Hawks in a 114-107 loss on Friday. Bradley Beal led the team with 27 points, six rebounds and five assists, Kristaps Porzingis added 22 points with nine rebounds and two blocks while Kyle Kuzma chipped in with 17 points on seven of 12 shooting. As a team, the Wizards shot 48 percent from the field and seven of 27 from the 3-point line as they fell behind at halftime after scoring just 21 points in the second quarter, before the Hawks went on another run in the third quarter to push the margin out to 13 points. The Wizards’ starters got the better of the Hawks’ starters, but their reserves combined for just 22 points which was the difference in a close contest.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers have been in red-hot form as they’ve won five of their last six games overall and they will be gunning for a fifth straight victory after sneaking past the Trail Blazers in a thrilling 120-119 win on Friday. Joel Embiid led the team with 39 points, seven rebounds and four assists, James Harden added 19 points with nine rebounds and eight assists while Tyrese Maxey chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the 76ers shot 51 percent from the field and 11 of 30 from the 3-point line as they got off to a terrible start and allowed 71 points in the first half to fall behind by as many as 21 points, but they never gave up and rallied with 35 points in the fourth quarter to steal the win on the back of Embiid who made the game-winner with just 1.1 seconds left on the clock.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The 76ers are 21-9 ATS in their last 30 home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win and 7-2 ATS in their last nine Sunday games.
Head to head, the over is 7-2 in the last nine meetings overall, the Wizards are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings in Philadelphia and the Wizards are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Wizards have been struggling lately as they’ve won just one of their last five games and they’re going to have to be at their best to even challenge the 76ers who erased a 21-point deficit in their thrilling win over the Trail Blazers on Friday. This is a tough one to pick as I can see the Wizards hanging around if they get off to a quick start, but the 76ers have been the more reliable and consistent team, so I’ll back them to take care of business at home.
