The Charlotte Hornets pay a visit to the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in decent form as they’ve won six of their last nine games overall and they will be eager to build some momentum after snapping a three-game skid with a 112-105 road win over the Knicks on Tuesday. Kelly Oubre Jr. led the team with 27 points on 10 of 17 shooting, Terry Rozier added 25 points with seven assists while Gordon Hayward chipped in with 23 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 49 percent from the field and 12 of 32 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in deep trouble when they leaked 45 points in the second quarter to fall behind by 16 points, before they dominated the second half by 62-39 to pull off the impressive comeback.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have been mired in their worst slump of the season as they’ve lost 12 of their last 13 games overall and they will be hoping to snap a nine-game losing streak after falling just short to the Wizards in a 119-117 loss on Tuesday. Jaden Ivey led the team with 26 points and 12 assists, James Wiseman added 21 points on 10 of 13 shooting while Marvin Bagley chipped in with 15 points on six of nine shooting. As a team, the Pistons shot 51 percent from the field and 13 of 30 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the Wizards in a really close contest, until the final second where the Wizards’ Daniel Gafford made the game-winning tip shot to beat the buzzer and snatch the game away.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games, 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games against a team with a losing record and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a win. The Pistons are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games, 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a losing record and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games against a team with a losing road record.
Head to head, the under is 12-5-1 in the last 18 meetings overall, the Hornets are 13-6 ATS in the last 19 meetings overall and the Hornets are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in Detroit.
The Hornets are shorthanded again as they are still without LaMelo Ball, while the Pistons are still missing Alec Burks, Isaiah Stewart and Bojan Bogdanovic. You couldn’t back either team with much confidence given that they have so little to play for at this stage of the season, the Hornets are coming into this game with a bit of momentum after pulling off a big upset against the Knicks on Tuesday. The Pistons were more than competitive in their narrow loss to the Wizards in their last outing, but the Hornets are 13-6 ATS in the last 19 meetings overall and I’d rather back them in this spot.
