The Brooklyn Nets invade the State Farm Arena to take on the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday afternoon.
The Brooklyn Nets have been in a funk as they’ve lost five of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting destroyed by the Bulls in a 131-87 road loss on Friday. Cam Thomas led the team with 22 points off the bench, Seth Curry added 19 points on eight of 11 shooting while Mikal Bridges chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Nets shot just 37 percent from the field and 12 of 44 from the 3-point line, but the writing was on the wall early in this game as they were never in the contest after getting outscored by 63-29 in the first half. Dorian Finney-Smith had a rough game of just two points on one of six shooting while Spencer Dinwiddie scored just two points on zero of six shooting.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks have been in decent form as they’ve won five of their last nine games overall and they will be looking to stay hot after blowing past the Cavaliers in a 136-119 home win on Friday. Trae Young led the way with 34 points and nine assists, Dejounte Murray added 25 points with nine rebounds and eight assists while Saddiq Bey chipped in with 19 points on six of nine shooting. As a team, the Hawks shot 58 percent from the field and 15 of 28 from the 3-point line as they jumped all over the Cavaliers from the start and were able to explode for 49 points in the second quarter to open up an early 32-point lead which allowed them to cruise the rest of the way.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five Sunday games. The Hawks are 7-16 ATS in their last 23 games following a win and 1-5 ATS in their last six Sunday games.
Head to head, the under is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings in Atlanta, the Nets are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Atlanta and the Nets are 2-7 ATS in the last nine meetings overall.
The Nets are shorthanded again as Ben Simmons is still out, while the Hawks are keeping an eye on John Collins who is currently listed as questionable due to lower back tightness. The Nets have struggled for consistency ever since the big trade and their confidence took a major hit after getting blown off the floor by the Bulls in their last outing, so I’m more comfortable taking the improving Hawks who are coming into this one fresh off a dominant win over the Cavaliers. The Nets are only 2-7 ATS in the last nine meetings overall and I’m backing that trend to continue here.
