The Detroit Pistons pay a visit to the Orlando Magic at the Amway Center on Thursday night.
The Detroit Pistons have continued their struggles this season as they’ve lost five of their last six games heading into the All-Star break and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting routed by the Celtics in a 127-109 loss last Wednesday. Bojan Bogdanovic led the team with 28 points on 12 of 17 shooting, Jaden Ivey added 17 points while Isaiah Stewart chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Pistons shot 51 percent from the field and 11 of 29 from the 3-point line as they struggled to keep pace with the Celtics from the start and allowed 66 points in the first half to fall behind by double digits, only to get blown away in the fourth quarter where they managed just 20 points.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have been in decent shape as they’ve won four of their last seven games overall, but they will be hoping to bounce back after falling short against the Raptors in a 123-113 road loss last Tuesday. Wendell Carter Jr. led the team in scoring with 26 points and five assists, Jalen Suggs added 24 points on nine of 12 shooting off the bench while Markelle Fultz chipped in with 19 points. As a team, the Magic shot 51 percent from the field and 13 of 31 from the 3-point line as they exploded for 43 points in the second quarter to overcome an early nine-point deficit, only to score just 43 points in the entire second half to allow the Raptors to slip away in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pistons are 7-1 ATS in their last eight Thursday games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games against a team with a losing home record. The Magic are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games against a team below .400, 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games following a loss and 24-11 ATS in their last 35 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings overall and the Pistons are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Pistons are still missing Marvin Bagley and Nerlens Noel, while the Magic are keeping eyes on Cole Anthony and Jonathan Isaac who are both listed as day to day. The Pistons haven’t been able to sustain any sort of a run this season, they lost five of six games heading into the break and they really have little to play for at this stage of the season. The Magic were on a nice run before they got stopped by the Raptors in their last outing, but their young core are playing well together at the moment and I think they can take care of business at home against this Pistons squad.
