The Denver Nuggets and the Cleveland Cavaliers duke it out at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Thursday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in great shape as they’ve won seven of their last nine games overall and they will be gunning for a fourth straight victory after beating the Mavericks in a 118-109 home win last Wednesday. Jeff Green led the team in scoring with 24 points on 11 of 16 shooting off the bench, Michael Porter Jr added 22 points while Nikola Jokic tallied a triple-double of 14 points with 13 rebounds and 10 assists. As a team, the Nuggets shot 57 percent from the field and 11 of 31 from the 3-point line as they exploded for 35 points in the second quarter to build a 21-point lead which came in handy as the Mavericks rallied in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been in great shape as they’ve won eight of their last 10 games overall, but they will be hoping to bounce back after falling short to the 76ers in a 118-112 road loss last Wednesday. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 33 points, Darius Garland added 27 points on 10 of 14 shooting while Evan Mobley chipped in with 23 points. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 50 percent from the field and 10 of 30 from the 3-point line, but they just left themselves too much ground to make up after getting outscored by 64-38 in the first half. The Cavaliers did well to cut a 28-point deficit to just four points late in the fourth quarter, but they just ran out of time in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games against a team above .600, 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Cavaliers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games, 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a loss and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Both teams come into this meeting with plenty of momentum but it is the Nuggets who hold the edge given that they’ve already beaten the Cavaliers in the earlier meeting back in January. The Nuggets have listed Reggie Jackson as day to day and Aaron Gordon is still currently listed as out, while the Cavaliers have listed Ricky Rubio and Cedi Osman as day to day. It’s hard to split these two teams at the moment so I’m not surprised by the line, but the Nuggets are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games against a team above .600 and I think they represent decent value as underdogs in this spot.
