The Atlanta Hawks invade the Spectrum Center to do battle with the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night.
The Atlanta Hawks have been in decent shape as they’ve won four of their past six games overall and they will be gunning for a third straight victory after blowing past the Spurs in a 125-106 home win on Saturday. DeAndre Hunter led the team with 24 points on eight of 13 shooting, Trae Young steered the offense with 24 points and 17 assists while Dejounte Murray tallied 18 points with seven rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Hawks shot 48 percent from the field and 10 of 26 from the 3-point line as they struggled to gain any separation from the pesky Spurs until the third quarter where they outscored the Spurs by 32-17 to pull away and win easily in the end.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in a real slump as they’ve lost nine of their last 11 games overall and they will be hoping to stop a seven-game skid after getting routed by the Nuggets in a 119-105 loss on Saturday. PJ Washington led the team with 22 points on eight of 14 shooting, Gordon Hayward added 21 points while LaMelo Ball tallied 18 points with nine rebounds and 12 assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 47 percent from the field and eight of 32 from the 3-point line as they poured in 34 points in the first quarter to take an early 15-point lead, but they couldn’t hold off the Nuggets, especially in the third quarter where they leaked 37 points to finish well short.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 7-15 ATS in their last 22 games following a win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Hornets are 2-7 ATS in their last nine home games, 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games following a loss and 0-6 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings overall and the under is 12-2 in the last 14 meetings in Charlotte.
The Hawks could be shorthanded here with John Collins and Saddiq Bey both day to day, while Bogdan Bogdanovic is listed as questionable. The Hornets are again missing Cody Martin while Kai Jones is listed as doubtful with a left ankle sprain. The Hawks are clearly the team in better form in this matchup and they made it look easy against the Spurs on Saturday. The Hornets have been in terrible form lately and they are 0-6 ATS in their last six games overall, so I’ll back the Hawks to take care of business in this spot.
