The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Memphis Grizzlies collide at the FedExForum on Friday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been going well as they’ve won eight of their last 12 games overall and they will be eager to stay hot after making light work of the Jazz in a 143-118 road win on Wednesday. Anthony Edwards led the team with 31 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, Jaylen Nowell added 30 points on 11 of 16 shooting while Luka Garza chipped in with 25 points on nine of 13 shooting off the bench. As a team, the Timberwolves shot a sizzling 57 percent from the field and 23 of 43 from the 3-point line as they poured in 44 points in the second quarter to take control of the contest, before they scored another 40 points in the third quarter to put the game to bed early.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies have been in dreadful form as they’ve lost eight of their last 10 games overall, but they will be looking to build some momentum in this one after snapping a three-game skid with a 104-89 home win on Tuesday. Ja Morant led the team with 34 points and seven assists on 12 of 20 shooting, Jaren Jackson Jr added 24 points with five blocks while Desmond Bane tallied 17 points with six rebounds and five assists. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 48 percent from the field and 11 of 33 from the 3-point line, but this win was all about their effort on defense as they held the Bulls to just 14 points in the first quarter to take the lead and they did it again in the fourth quarter where they outscored the Bulls by 32-14 to pull away and earn the much-needed victory. Dillon Brooks had a rough one as they finished with five points on two of 12 shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record, 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a win of more than 10 points and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Grizzlies are 37-16-1 ATS in their last 54 home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-0 in the last five meetings overall, the Timberwolves are 7-20 ATS in the last 27 meetings in Memphis and the Timberwolves are 9-19 ATS in the last 28 meetings overall.
The Timberwolves could be shorthanded again as Rudy Gobert, Mike Conley and Kyle Anderson are all questionable. The Grizzlies are still missing Steven Adams and Luke Kennard could make his debut for his new team. The Timberwolves have been flying under the radar lately and they would’ve taken plenty of confidence from their dominant win over the Jazz on Wednesday, but it is the Grizzlies who open as big favorites in this one with the injury cloud hanging over the Timberwolves. I like the Grizzlies to snap out of their funk with a win here, but with the line so hefty, I’ll back the Timberwolves who are 9-2 ATS in the last 11 games against a team with a winning record.
