The San Antonio Spurs and the Detroit Pistons duke it out at Little Caesars Arena on Friday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in dreadful form as they’ve lost 15 of their last 16 games overall and they will be hoping to snap a 10-game slide after getting routed by the Raptors in a 112-98 road loss on Wednesday. Keldon Johnson led the team with 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Josh Richardson added 14 points while Jakob Poeltl chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Spurs shot just 40 percent from the field and nine of 32 from the 3-point line as they struggled from the start and leaked 34 points in the first quarter to fall behind early and things only got worse in the second half where they got outscored by 55-44 to extend their losing streak.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have been in a rut as they’ve lost nine of their last 11 games overall and they will be hoping to avoid a fourth straight defeat after getting thrashed by the Cavaliers in a 113-85 road loss on Wednesday. Bojan Bogdanovic led the team with 15 points, Jalen Duren added 14 points with nine rebounds and three blocks while Jaden Ivey chipped in with 10 points. As a team, the Pistons shot just 37 percent from the field and eight of 32 from the 3-point line as they got off to a terrible start and managed just 14 points in the first quarter to fall behind by double-digits right away, but they worked their way back into the contest only to get blown away by 37-17 in the fourth quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 0-5 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record, 0-5 ATS in their last five road games and 0-9 ATS in their last nine games overall. The Pistons are 1-7 ATS in their last eight home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings in Detroit and the Spurs are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Spurs could be shorthanded again as Romeo Langford, Tre Jones and Jeremy Sochan are all listed as questionable, while the Pistons are still without Marvin Bagley, but they should have the newly acquired James Wiseman in the lineup. You couldn’t bet on either team with much confidence of a return, but the Spurs are 0-5 ATS in their last five road games and 0-9 ATS in their last nine games overall, so I’ll reluctantly lean towards the Pistons at home in this spot.
