The Atlanta Hawks play host to the Phoenix Suns at the State Farm Arena on Thursday night.
The Phoenix Suns have been in great form as they’ve won nine of their last 11 games overall and they will be aiming for a fourth straight victory after sneaking past the Nets in a 116-112 road win on Tuesday. DeAndre Ayton led the team with 35 points and 15 rebounds on 14 of 18 shooting, Mikal Bridges added 21 points with eight rebounds while Devin Booker chipped in with 19 points and six assists in his first game since Christmas. As a team, the Suns shot 46 percent from the field and nine of 31 from the 3-point line as they poured in 33 points in the second quarter to build an early 13-point lead, which proved to be just enough as the Nets rallied in the fourth quarter to make it interesting at the end.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks have been in rough shape as they’ve lost six of their last nine games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after falling short to the Pelicans in a 116-107 road loss on Tuesday. Bojan Bogdanovic led the team with 22 points off the bench, Dejounte Murray added 19 points with seven assists while Trae Young chipped in with 16 points and 16 assists. As a team, the Hawks shot 44 percent from the field and 12 of 36 from the 3-point line, but in a game that could’ve gone either way, it was the Pelicans who just played with more urgency to escape with the gritty win at home. De’Andre Hunter had a night to forget as he finished with just three points on zero of nine shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Hawks are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games following a road trip of seven or more days and 1-8 ATS in their last nine home games against a team with a road record below .400.
Head to head, the over is 7-0 in the last seven meetings overall and the Suns are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Atlanta.
The Suns are shorthanded again as Landry Shamet, Cameron Payne and Dein Booker are all currently listed as out on the injury report, while the Hawks don’t have a single player listed on the report. The Suns have been flying under the radar lately as they’ve quietly won nine of their last 11 games, while the Hawks are still struggling for consistency despite being at full health as a team. The Hawks beat the Suns by 132-100 a week ago, but the Suns have won three straight since that meeting and I think they get their revenge in this spot.
