The Philadelphia 76ers invade the TD Garden to do battle with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night.
The Philadelphia 76ers have been in great form as they’ve won nine of their lats 11 games overall, but they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after losing to the Knicks in a 108-97 defeat on Sunday. Joel Embiid led the team with 31 points, 14 rebounds and three assists, DeAnthony Melton and Tobias Harris each scored 14 points while James Harden chipped in with 12 points and 12 assists. As a team, the 76ers shot just 40 percent from the field and seven of 25 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates with 35 points in the first quarter to lead by as many as 21 points, only to get completely outhustled in the fourth quarter where they managed just 18 points to get blown out in the end.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in decent shape as they’ve won three of their past four games and they will be eager to stay hot after routing the Pistons in a 111-99 road win on Monday. Jayson Tatum led the team with 34 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, Derrick White added 23 points with seven rebounds and seven assists while Malcolm Brogdon chipped in with 16 points off the bench. As a team, the Celtics shot 47 percent from the field and 16 of 37 from the 3-point line as they took control of the contest with 34 points in the second quarter, before they clamped down and restricted the Pistons to just 19 points in the third quarter to push the lead out to 23 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the 76ers are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against a team above .600 and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. The Celtics are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games, 8-1 ATS in their last nine games against a team above .600 and 2-7 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Boston, the 76ers are 4-9 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Boston and the 76ers are 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings overall.
The 76ers could be shorthanded here as Joel Embiid is currently listed as questionable, while the Celtics are still missing Marcus Smart, but they should have Jaylen Brown and Robert Williams back. The 76ers were in great form before they ran into the Knicks on Sunday, but they’ve had time to dwell on the loss, so I expect them to be ready for this one. However, the Celtics were able to keep winning games despite all the injuries and they are 9-4 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Boston. It’s hard to split these two squads, but assuming that Embiid doesn’t play or is limited, I’ll lean towards the Celtics at home.
