The Atlanta Hawks invade the Smoothie King Center to take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night.
The Atlanta Hawks have been in a rut as they’ve lost five of their last eight games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting routed by the Nuggets in a 128-108 road loss on Saturday. Dejounte Murray led the team with 28 points and 10 assists, DeAndre Hunter added 20 points while AJ Griffin chipped in with 15 points on six of 11 shooting. As a team, the Hawks shot 48 percent from the field and just six of 20 from the 3-point line, but they were always fighting an uphill battle after allowing the Nuggets to pour in 70 points in the first half. The Hawks had no answer for the Nuggets’ Jamal Murray who torched them for 41 points.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans look to have moved on from their 10-game losing streak as they are now aiming for a third straight victory after blowing past the Kings in a 136-104 win on Sunday. Trey Murphy caught fire early and led the team with 30 points on nine of 11 shooting, CJ McCollum added 24 points on nine of 11 shooting while Willy Hernangomez chipped in with 22 points, 16 rebounds and four assists off the bench. As a team, the Pelicans shot 56 percent from the field and 14 of 26 from the 3-point line as they jumped all over the Kings and exploded for 70 points in the first half to take an 18-point lead into halftime, which only grew in the second half as the Pelicans never took their foot off the gas.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a loss. The Pelicans are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the Hawks are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall and the Hawks are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in New Orleans.
The Hawks don’t have a single player listed on the injury report, while the Pelicans are again missing Zion Williamson, but they should have Jonas Valanciunas back in the lineup. The Hawks have really been below their best lately and there’s really no excuse given that they are one of the few teams in the league with no injuries. The Pelicans looked terrible during their 10-game slide, but they’ve looked like a different team in their last two wins. This should be a close one, but I’m sticking with the Pelicans to keep their momentum going with a third straight win here.
