The Portland Trail Blazers pay a visit to the Washington Wizards at the Capital One Arena on Friday night.
The Portland Trail Blazers have been heating up lately as they’ve won four of their last five games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after beating the Grizzlies in a 122-112 road win on Wednesday. Damian Lillard led the team with 42 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists, Anfernee Simons added 26 points on 10 of 18 shooting while Jerami Grant chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the Trail Blazers shot 47 percent from the field and 14 of 36 from the 3-point line as they allowed the Grizzlies off to a quick start and fell behind by as many as 12 points, but they stayed within striking distance the entire game and made their move in the fourth quarter where they exploded for 38 points to escape with the unlikely victory. The win came at a cost as Jusuf Nurkic led the game in the first quarter and didn’t return while Grant played just 20 minutes before also leaving.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards have been in great form as they’ve won seven of their last nine games overall and because their last game got postponed, they haven’t seen the court since beating the Spurs by 127-106 back on Monday. Deni Avdija led the team with 25 points and nine rebounds on 10 of 12 shooting off the bench, Bradley Beal added 21 points with seven assists while Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma scored 17 and 16 points respectively. As a team, the Wizards shot 55 percent from the field and 16 of 30 from the 3-point line, but this win was more about their defense as they held the Spurs to 19 points in the second quarter to take control, before they held the Spurs to just 19 points in the fourth quarter to pull away and make it a blowout.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trail Blazers are 1-8 ATS in their last nine road games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games playing on one days’ rest. The Wizards are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the over is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings overall, the Trail Blazers are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and the Trail Blazers are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Washington.
The Trail Blazers are shorthanded for this one as Jusuf Nurkic has been ruled out and Jerami Grant is listed as questionable, while the Wizards will again be missing Anthony Gill due to health and safety protocols. The Trail Blazers have caught fire over their past five games thanks to Lillard who has carried them lately, while the Wizards have been flying under the radar and they will be fully rested as they haven’t played since Monday. You can make an argument for either side here, but eh Trail Blazers are a solid 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Washington and I think that trend continues here as they pull off the upset behind another big game from Lillard.
