The Washington Wizards and the Detroit Pistons duke it out at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday night.
The Washington Wizards have been in red-hot form as they’ve won seven of their last nine games overall and they will be eager to build on their six-game win streak after blowing past the Spurs in a 127-106 road win on Monday. Deni Avdija led the team in scoring with 25 points on 10 of 12 shooting off the bench, Bradley Beal added 21 points with seven rebounds and seven assists while Kristaps Porzingis tallied 17 points with nine rebounds, seven assists, three steals and five blocks. As a team, the Wizards shot 55 percent from the field and 16 of 30 from the 3-point line, but this win was more about their defense as they held the Spurs to just 19 points in the second quarter to take the lead into halftime, before they held the Spurs to just 19 points in the fourth quarter to pull away and win big in the end.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have been in a real slump as they’ve lost nine of their last 11 games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after falling short to the Mavericks in a 111-105 road loss on Monday. Bojan Bogdanovic led the team in scoring with 29 points on 10 of 15 shooting, Saddiq Bey added 18 points while Jaden Ivey chipped in with 14 points, but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the Pistons shot 45 percent from the field and 14 of 39 from the 3-point line as they jumped all over the Mavericks in the first half to lead for most of the game, before they managed just 21 points in the fourth quarter to allow the Mavericks to steal the game from them in the end. Killian Hayes had a night to forget as he scored just eight points on three of 16 shooting off the bench.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games, 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall. The Pistons are 0-5 ATS in their last five home games, 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 7-2 in the last nine meetings overall and the Wizards are 2-6 ATS in the last eight meetings in Detroit.
The Wizards are going to be shorthanded again as Anthony Gill is still out while Daniel Gafford is considered questionable with an illness. The Pistons are also missing some players as Marvin Bagley and Cory Joseph are both out again, while Hamidou Diallo has been upgraded to probable for this matchup. The Wizards are clearly the team in better form coming into this meeting and they looked great in their dominant win over the Spurs on Monday, so I’m expecting more of the same here. The Pistons are 0-5 ATS in their last five home games, so I’ll stick with the Wizards to get the win and cover in this spot.
