The Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks collide at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in decent form as they’ve split their last eight games overall, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting routed by the Nets in a 121-104 road loss last night. Thomas Bryant led the team in scoring with 18 points and nine rebounds on seven of eight shooting, Russell Westbrook tallied 17 points with eight rebounds and 10 assists while Rui Hachimura chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Lakers shot just 39 percent from the field and 11 of 29 from the 3-point line as they poured in 36 points in the third quarter to overcome an early 15-point deficit, only to get blown away in the fourth quarter where the Nets went on a 19-6 run to snatch the game from them in the end.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost five of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling short against the Nets in a 122-117 road loss on Saturday. Jalen Brunson led the team with 26 points on 10 of 19 shooting, RJ Barrett added 24 points on nine of 16 shooting while Julius Randle tallied 19 points with 10 rebounds and eight assists. As a team, the Knicks shot 51 percent from the field and 10 of 28 from the 3-point line as they struggled to match the intensity of the Nets from the start and were always fighting an uphill battle after getting dominated in the first half to trail by as many as 19 points which proved too much to overcome as they could only get to within four points late in the fourth quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games, 7-16-1 ATS in their last 24 games against a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Knicks are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games and 2-5 ATS in the last seven games overall.
Head to head, the Lakers are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the Lakers are 0-5 ATS in the last five meetings in New York.
The Lakers could again be shorthanded as Anthony Davis and LeBron James are still listed as out currently, while the Knicks are just about at full health except for Mitchell Robinson who is still out. The Lakers are playing their second game of a back to back set and they could again be without their two best players in Davis and James, so I like the Knicks to take advantage in this spot. Of course, this is a game where you definitely want to check the lineups before tipoff, but assuming that the Lakers are short again, I’ll happily take the Knicks in a close one at home.
