The Detroit Pistons and the Brooklyn Nets collide at the Barclays Center on Thursday night.
The Detroit Pistons have been in terrible form as they’ve lost seven of their last eight games overall and they will be hoping to snap a four-game skid after getting run over by the Bucks in a 150-130 loss on Monday. Bojan Bogdanovic led the team with 33 points on 11 of 15 shooting, Jalen Duren added 23 points with 15 rebounds and two blocks while Saddiq Bey chipped in with 21 points. As a team, the Pistons shot 49 percent from the field and 13 of 32 from the 3-point line, but they were always playing from behind in this one after allowing the Bucks to explode for 49 points in the first quarter. The Pistons got blown out in the first half and trailed by as many as 33 points before they poured in 73 points in the second half.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been in a real funk as they’ve lost five of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling just short to the red-hot 76ers in a 137-133 road loss last night. Kyrie Irving led the team with 30 points and 10 assists on nine of 15 shooting, Seth Curry provided the spark off the bench with 32 points on 11 of 20 shooting while Nic Claxton tallied 25 points with 11 rebounds and two blocks. As a team, the Nets shot a sizzling 64 percent from the field and 14 of 26 from the 3-point line as they worked hard to claw their way back from an early 17-point deficit late in the fourth quarter, only to allow the 76ers to go on a pivotal 8-2 run to steal the game from them in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pistons are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record, 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall. The Nets are 14-39-2 ATS in their last 55 home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings overall and the Pistons are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings overall.
The Pistons are still shorthanded as Cory Joseph and Marvin Bagley are both out, while Isaiah Livers and Isaiah Stewart are both questionable. The Nets are still missing Kevin Durant but are otherwise unchanged for this one. The line is quite hefty for this one, but this is really about the margin of victory for the Nets who should surely win despite playing their second game of a back to back set. However, the Pistons are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings overall and they should be well-rested as they haven’t played since Monday, so I’m backing them to hang around long enough to get the backdoor cover.
