The Denver Nuggets and the New Orleans Pelicans duke it out at the Smoothie King Center on Tuesday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been on a tear as they’ve won 11 of their last 13 games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting beaten by the Thunder in a 101-99 loss on Sunday. Jamal Murray led the team with 26 points with nine assists, Aaron Gordon added 15 points with 10 rebounds while Bruce Brown chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds. As a team, the Nuggets shot 43 percent from the field and 10 of 28 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with their defense by holding the Nuggets to just 18 points in the first quarter to lead for most of the contest, until late in the game where the Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander nailed the game-winner with just 9.0 seconds remaining.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have been in rough shape as they’ve lost seven of their last nine games overall and they will be hoping to arrest a four-game skid after falling just short to the Heat in a 100-96 road loss on Sunday. Trey Murphy led the team with 17 points on six of 11 shooting, Jonas Valanciunas added 14 points with 16 rebounds while CJ McCollum chipped in with 13 points and five assists. As a team, the Pelicans shot 47 percent from the field and eight of 30 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates with 32 points in the first quarter to lead by as many as 16 points and they were able to stay in front all the way until the fourth quarter where they Heat poured in 31 points to slip away in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall. The Pelicans are 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record and 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team above .600.
Head to head, the under is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings overall and the Nuggets are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in New Orleans.
The Nuggets could be shorthanded for this one as Michael Porter Jr, Bones Hyland, Peyton Watson and Nikola Jokic are all listed as questionable, while the Pelicans will again be missing Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. This is certainly a game where you want to check the lineups before tipoff, but in this matchup, I’ll happily take the Nuggets on the road if Jokic is available.
