The Los Angeles Clippers travel to the American Airlines Center to take on the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Clippers have been in a slump as they’ve lost nine of their last 12 games overall, but they will be hoping to build some momentum in this one after sneaking past the Spurs in a 131-126 road win on Friday. Kawhi Leonard led the team with 36 points and seven assists on 13 of 18 shooting, Norman Powell added 26 points on nine of 11 shooting off the bench while Paul George chipped in with 16 points and 12 assists. As a team, the Clippers shot a sizzling 63 percent from the field and 15 of 28 shooting from the 3-point line as they trailed by seven points going into halftime, before they took over with 66 points in the second half to escape with the much-needed victory.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been in rough shape as they’ve lost five of their last seven games overall, but they will be eager to stay hot in this one after making light work of the Heat in a 115-90 home win on Friday. Luka Doncic led the team with 34 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, Spencer Dinwiddie added 19 points while Reggie Bullock chipped in with 15 points on five of seven shooting off the bench. As a team, the Mavericks shot 46 percent from the field and 18 of 38 from the 3-point line, but this win was all about their effort on the defensive end as they held the Heat to just 19 points in the first quarter to take the early double-digit lead which ballooned to 30 points in the third quarter where they restricted the Heat to just 16 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Clippers are 0-5 ATS in their last five road games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Mavericks are 0-6 ATS in their last six games following an ATS win, 6-20-1 ATS in their last 27 games following a win and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings overall, the Clippers are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings overall and the Clippers are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Dallas.
The Clippers will again be missing Luke Kennard and John Wall, while the Mavericks have ruled out Christian Wood and they have listed McKinley Wright as questionable for this one. The Clippers were able to snap out of their funk with a much-needed win over the Spurs on Friday, but they were far from convincing and I don’t see them beating the Mavericks if they came out with the same effort. The Mavericks have clearly been a little below their best lately, but they looked great in their dominant win over the Heat and I think they can keep it going if they defend half as well in this one.
