The Boston Celtics pay a visit to the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Saturday night in NBA action.
The Boston Celtics have been in red-hot form as they’ve won nine of their last 11 games overall and they will be eager to build on their five-game win streak after routing the Nets in a 109-98 road win on Thursday. Jayson Tatum led the team with 20 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, Marcus Smart and Malcolm Brogdon each scored 16 points while Derrick White chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Celtics shot 47 percent from the field and 12 of 36 from the 3-point line, but they were in a real arm wrestle with the Nets and couldn’t really gain separation until the fourth quarter where they held the Nets to just 16 points to pull away in the end.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in poor form as they’ve lost six of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to avoid a fourth straight defeat after getting routed by the Raptors in a 124-114 road loss on Thursday. LaMelo Ball led the team with 32 points and seven assists on 11 of 19 shooting, Terry Rozier added 21 points with five assists while Mason Plumlee chipped in with 16 points, 15 rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 53 percent from the field and 13 of 33 from the 3-point line, but they were poor on the defensive end once again and were always fighting an uphill battle after leaking 38 points in the first quarter to put them behind by double-digits right away.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight road games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record. The Hornets are 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the Celtics are 20-6-1 ATS in the last 27 meetings overall and the Celtics are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Charlotte.
The Celtics are shorthanded for this one as Jaylen Brown has been ruled out while Malcolm Brogdon is listed as questionable due to personal reasons. The Hornets are also shorthanded as Kelly Oubre Jr and Gordon Hayward are both listed as out. This is a classic case of two teams headed in opposite directions as the Celtics are clearly aiming for a championship run, while the Hornets continue to struggle to even stay competitive on a nightly basis. The Celtics are 20-6-1 ATS in the last 27 meetings overall and I think that trend continues here as the Celtics get the job done despite missing their second leading scorer.
