The New Orleans Pelicans pay a visit to the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena on Friday night in NBA action.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been in a real funk as they’ve lost five of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting routed by the Celtics in a 125-114 road loss on Wednesday. CJ McCollum led the team with 38 points on 15 of 24 shooting, Trey Murphy added 15 points while Naji Marshall tallied 18 points with seven rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Pelicans shot 51 percent from the field and 11 of 30 from the 3-point line as they did a decent job of hanging with the Celtics in the first half as they leaned heavily on McCollum’s hot hand, but they were always playing from behind as they didn’t get enough help from their reserves as no bench player finished in double figures in scoring.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have been in a rut as they’ve lost five of their last eight games, but they will be eager to build some momentum after snapping a three-game skid with a 135-118 win over the Timberwolves on Wednesday. Saddiq Bey led the team with 31 points on 10 of 16 shooting, Bojan Bogdanovic added 27 points with six rebounds and four assists while Jaden Ivey, Killian Hayes and Hamidou Diallo each scored 18 points. As a team, the Pistons shot a sizzling 60 percent from the field and 17 of 32 from the 3-point line as they hit the ground running and scored at least 31 points in every quarter to blow away the Timberwolves in one of their best performances of the season.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Pistons are 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a win and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 11-5-1 in the last 17 meetings in Detroit and the Pelicans are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Detroit.
The Pelicans are shorthanded once again as Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are both out, while Herbert Jones is questionable. The Pistons are also missing a few players as Buddy Boeheim and Jalen Duren are both out, while Isaiah Stewart is questionable. You couldn’t back either team with much confidence as both teams have been struggling lately, but the Pelicans are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Detroit, so I’ll lean towards the Pelicans to get the win and cover at the short line.
