The Boston Celtics travel to the Barclays Center to take on the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night in NBA action.
The Boston Celtics have been in fine form as they’ve won eight of their last 10 games overall and they will be gunning for a fifth straight victory after routing the shorthanded Pelicans in a 125-114 home win last night. Jaylen Brown led the team with 41 points and 12 rebounds, Jayson Tatum added 31 points with 10 rebounds and four assists while Malcolm Brogdon chipped in with 20 points on seven of 11 shooting off the bench. As a team, the Celtics shot 48 percent from the field and 15 of 44 from the 3-point line as they hit the ground running and poured in 64 points in the first half to take the lead, which ballooned to 19 points in the third quarter where they scored another 33 points to put the game to bed early.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been in red-hot form as they’ve won 14 of their last 15 games overall and they will be eager to stay hot after outlasting the Heat in a 102-101 road win on Sunday. Kyrie Irving led the team with 29 points and six assists, Kevin Durant added 17 points while Seth Curry chipped in with 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Nets shot 51 percent from the field and 12 of 33 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in trouble when they managed just 13 points in the third quarter to trail by nine points, but they stayed in the fight and were able to steal the game in the final seconds thanks to Royce O’Neale who made the game-winning rebound and shot with just 3.0 seconds left on the clock.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven road games,4-0-1 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days’ rest and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. The Nets are 14-37-2 ATS in their last 53 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings overall, the Celtics are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall and the Celtics are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Brooklyn.
The Celtics are going to be shorthanded once again as Marcus Smart and Robert Williams are both out, while the Nets are going to be without Kevin Durant for about a month. The Celtics have continued to run through teams on a nightly basis and they have lucked out a bit in this one with Durant sitting out injured. The Nets have been in red-hot form, but now they are going to be truly tested with Durant expected to sit out for an extended period. It’s hard to split these two teams at the moment, but the Celtics are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Brooklyn and I think they can get the job done against this shorthanded Nets squad.
