The New Orleans Pelicans and the Boston Celtics duke it out at the TD Garden on Wednesday night in NBA action.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost four of their last six games, but they looked good in their dominant 132-112 road win over the Wizards on Monday. CJ McCollum led the way with 34 points on 12 of 21 shooting, Jonas Valanciunas added 27 points with 12 rebounds while Naji Marshall chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the Pelicans shot 52 percent from the field and 10 of 26 from the 3-point line as they got off to a sloppy start and allowed the Wizards to pour on 37 points in the first quarter to put them behind early, but they took control behind their defense and held the Wizards to just 19 points in the second quarter, before finishing with a flurry in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in great shape as they’ve won seven of their last nine games overall and they will be gunning for a fourth straight victory after beating the Bulls in a 107-99 home win on Monday. Jayson Tatum led the way with 32 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Grant Williams added 20 points with eight rebounds and two blocks off the bench while Jaylen Brown chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the Celtics shot just 43 percent from the field and 11 of 41 from the 3-point line as they poured in 31 points in the second quarter to take the lead into halftime, before they made another run in the third quarter when the Bulls lost their leading scorer, DeMar DeRozan to injury.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games, 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win of more than 10 points. The Celtics are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a winning record and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-0 in the last four meetings overall and the under is 15-6 in the last 21 meetings in Boston.
The Pelicans will again be without Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, while Herbert Jones is listed as doubtful. The Celtics are keeping eyes on Robert Williams and Marcus Smart who are both questionable for this one. The Celtics open as big favorites at home which is understandable given how banged up the Pelicans are at the moment. I’m not going as far as to say that the Pelicans can win this one, but they looked great in their last game and I think they can keep this one to single digits if McCollum has a big game.
