The Charlotte Hornets and the Toronto Raptors duke it out at the Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night in NBA action.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in rough shape as they’ve lost six of their last eight games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back here after getting stopped in their tracks by the Pacers in a 116-111 road loss on Sunday. PJ Washington led the team with 22 points, Terry Rozier added 19 points with six assists while Mason Plumlee chipped in with 18 points and 13 rebounds. As a team, the Hornets shot 43 percent from the field and 11 of 33 from the 3-point line as they got off to a quick start and built a 14-point lead, but they couldn’t put the Pacers away and got burned in the fourth quarter where they Pacers exploded for 43 points to make steal the game in the end.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Raptors have been in a rut as they’ve lost five of their last seven games overall, but they will be eager to build some momentum here after taking down the Trail Blazers in a 117-105 home win on Sunday. Pascal Siakam led the team with 27 points and six assists, Scottie Barnes added 22 points with nine rebounds and four assists while Gary Trent Jr. chipped in with 19 points. As a team, the Raptors shot 44 percent from the field and 12 of 31 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates with 34 points in the first quarter to take the early lead, before they opened the third quarter with a 14-0 run to push the lead out to 19 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five road games and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games following a loss. The Raptors are 2-7 ATS in their last nine home games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a win and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the over is 11-5-1 in the last 17 meetings overall, the Hornets are 18-8 ATS in the last 26 meetings in Toronto and the Hornets are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings overall.
The Hornets are shorthanded again as Kelly Oubre Jr and Gordon Hayward are both out, while the Raptors are still missing Otto Porter Jr. The Hornets haven’t been able to get anything going lately, but they were more than competitive in their narrow loss to the Pacers on Sunday, while the Raptors haven’t been much better as they were ice-cold before they took down the Trail Blazers on Sunday. You couldn’t back either side with much confidence these days, but even though the betting trends favor the Hornets, I’ll lean towards the Raptors to build on Sunday’s win with another win and cover in this spot.
