The New Orleans Pelicans travel to the Capital One Arena to take on the Washington Wizards on Monday night in NBA action.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their last five games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting beaten by the Mavericks in a 127-117 road loss on Saturday. Jonas Valanciunas led the team with 25 points, 10 rebounds and three assists on 10 of 13 shooting, Naji Marshall added 24 points on nine of 17 shooting while Herbert Jones chipped in with 16 points and five steals. As a team, the Pelicans shot 47 percent from the field and just five of 29 from the 3-point line as they got off to a terrible start and were always fighting a losing battle after getting outscored by 34-15 in a nightmare of a first quarter.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards have been in decent shape as they’ve won six of their last nine games overall, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting thrashed by the Thunder in a 127-110 road loss on Friday. Kyle Kuzma led the team with 23 points and seven assists, Daniel Gafford added 15 points on seven of eight shooting while Kristaps Porzingis and Will Barton each scored 14 points. As a team, the Wizards shot 48 percent from the field and seven of 24 from the 3-point line but they left themselves too much ground to make up after getting blown out by 68-42 in the first half. Kristaps Porzingis shot just three of 11 from the field, Corey Kispert scored just seven points on two of eight shooting while Rui Hachimura scored just five points on two of nine shooting off the bench.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games, 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Wizards are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record, 17-40-1 ATS in their last 58 games playing on two days rest and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the under is 20-8 in the last 28 meetings overall, the Pelicans are 0-6 ATS in the last six meetings in Washington and the Pelicans are 6-15 ATS in the last 21 meetings overall.
The Pelicans are going to be shorthanded once again as Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are both out, while the Wizards have ruled out Bradley Beal once again with that hamstring strain. The Pelicans have struggled ever since Williamson went down and they looked terrible in the first quarter against the Mavericks on Saturday, while the Wizards were in great form before dropping their last two games. The Pelicans are banged up right now and they are only 0-6 ATS in the last six meetings in Washington, so I’m going to stick with the Wizards to get the win and cover at home in this spot.
