The Boston Celtics pay a visit to the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center on Saturday night.
The Boston Celtics have been in pretty good form as they’ve won five of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to stay hot after blowing past the Mavericks in a 124-95 road win on Thursday. Jayson Tatum led the team with a triple-double of 29 points with 14 rebounds and 10 assists, Jaylen Brown added 19 points with seven rebounds and three assists while Marcus Smart and Malcolm Brogdon each scored 15 points. As a team, the Celtics shot 48 percent from the field and 16 of 43 from the 3-point line as they got off to a quick start and outpaced the Mavericks from start to finish to finish with one of their biggest wins of the season after getting embarrassed in their last outing.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been in a real funk as they’ve lost six of their last nine games, but they will be looking to build some momentum after taking down the Pistons in a 121-109 last night. Tre Jones led the team with 25 points on 11 of 18 shooting, Romeo Langford added 15 points while Jakob Poeltl tallied 11 points with 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks. As a team, the Spurs shot a healthy 55 percent from the field and nine of 24 from the 3-point line as they struggled to gain any separation from the Pistons until the second half where they exploded for 70 points to win comfortably in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six road games and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record. The Spurs are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 0-4 ATS in their last four games playing on zero days’ rest.
Head to head, the over is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings overall, the Celtics are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings in San Antonio and the Celtics are 7-19-1 ATS in the last 27 meetings overall.
The Spurs are still a little shorthanded as Keldon Johnson will likely miss some time after leaving last night’s game with a hamstring injury, while the Celtics should have a full squad once again. The Spurs were able to snap out of their funk with a win over the Pistons last night, but the Celtics have been the benchmark of the league all season and they just destroyed the Mavericks by 29 points on Thursday. The Spurs are playing their second game of a back to back set, so I’ll stick with the Celtics to get the win and cover on the road in this spot.
