The Cleveland Cavaliers play host to the Phoenix Suns at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
The Phoenix Suns have been in a real slump as they’ve lost six of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to arrest a three-game skid after getting routed by the Knicks in a 102-83 road loss on Monday. DeAndre Ayton led the team with 12 points, Chris Paul added 11 points while Mikal Bridges and Damion Lee each scored 10 points. As a team, the Suns shot 39 percent from the field and 10 of 37 from the 3-point line as they got off to a terrible start and were never in the contest after scoring just 11 points in the first quarter and 31 points in the first half.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been in great shape as they’ve won seven of their last 10 games overall and they will be gunning for a third straight victory after outlasting the Bulls in a thrilling 145-134 overtime home win on Monday. Donovan Mitchell led the team with a career-high 71 points and 11 assists on 22 of 34 shooting, Jarrett Allen added 21 points on nine of 10 shooting while Cedi Osman chipped in with 19 points off the bench. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 52 percent from the field and 16 of 46 from the 3-point line as they exploded for 83 points in the second half to erase an early 21-point deficit, before they dominated the overtime period by 15-4 to cap off a career night for Mitchell who was clearly the player of the match.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Cavaliers are 16-6-1 ATS in their last 23 home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall and the Suns are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings in Cleveland.
The Suns are going to be shorthanded again as Jae Crowder, Cameron Johnson and Devin Booker are still out, while the Cavaliers have listed Darius Garland as doubtful and they are keeping an eye on Evan Mobley who is questionable. The Suns have been ice-cold lately and their confidence took a real hit after scoring just 83 points in a bad loss to the Kings on Monday. Conversely, the Cavaliers have been in a groove lately, especially Mitchell who is coming fresh off his 71-point performance in Monday’s win over the Bulls. There’s always a chance of the Cavaliers having a letdown performance after such a thrilling win, but I can’t trust the Suns to take advantage, not when they’re struggling like they have been. The Suns are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings in Cleveland and I think that trend continues here as the Cavaliers get the win and cover.
