The Phoenix Suns and the Toronto Raptors duke it out at the Scotiabank Arena on Friday night.
The Phoenix Suns have been in a major slump as they’ve lost nine of their last 13 games overall and they will be eager to put up a better performance after getting thrashed by the Wizards in a 127-102 road loss on Wednesday. DeAndre Ayton led the team with 31 points on 14 of 22 shooting, Chris Paul added 20 points with seven assists while Mikal Bridges chipped in with 17 points and five assists. As a team, the Suns shot 44 percent from the field and 13 of 31 from the 3-point line as they failed to match the intensity of the Wizards from the start and were always fighting an uphill battle after leaking 36 points in the first quarter. There were signs of a fightback when the Suns cut the deficit to single digits, but things went got ugly again in the fourth quarter where they managed just 18 points to allow the Wizards to pull away in the end.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Raptors have been in terrible form as they’ve lost eight of their last 10 games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting thrashed by the Grizzlies in a 119-106 loss last night. Pascal Siakam led the team with 25 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, Gary Trent Jr. added 20 points off the bench while Scottie Barnes tallied 14 points with 10 rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Raptors shot just 40 percent from the field and 10 of 28 from the 3-point line, but once again they got off to a slow start and got outpaced for most of the game to fall behind by as many as 23 points in the third quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 5-0 ATS in their last five games playing on one days rest. The Raptors are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five Friday games.
Head to head, the under is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Toronto, the Suns are 20-8-1 ATS in the last 29 meetings overall and the Suns are 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings in Toronto.
The Suns are going to be shorthanded again as Cameron Johnson, Cameron Payne, Landry Shamet and Devin Booker are all out. The Raptors are missing Precious Achiuwa while Fred VanVleet is listed as day to day. The Suns have really struggled for consistency this season with all the injuries piling up and you could say the same about the Raptors who just got blown out by the Grizzlies last night. You couldn’t back either team with much confidence these days, but with the line so short, I’ll back the Suns who are 20-8-1 ATS in the last 29 meetings overall.
