The Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic duke it out at the Amway Center on Tuesday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in a real slump as they’ve lost eight of their last 11 games overall and they will be hoping to arrest a four-game skid after getting beaten by the Mavericks in a 124-115 road loss on Christmas Day. LeBron James led the team with 38 points, six rebounds and five assists, Russell Westbrook added 17 points with five rebounds and four assists while Austin Reaves chipped in with 16 points off the bench, but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the Lakers shot 48 percent from the field and nine of 28 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in control after they kept the Mavericks to just 43 points in the first half to lead by as many as 14 points, but all their hard work went down the drain in a nightmare of a third quarter where they got outscored by 51-21.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have been in great form as they’ve won eight of their last nine games overall and they will be gunning for a third straight victory after blowing past the Spurs in a 133-113 home win on Friday. Cole Anthony flirted with a triple-double as he racked up 23 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists off the bench, Franz Wagner added 21 points, Paolo Banchero scored 18 points while Moritz Wagner chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Magic shot 57 percent from the field and 17 of 32 from the 3-point line as they kept pace with the Spurs in a tightly contested first half, before they exploded for 39 points in the fourth quarter to pull away and make it a blowout.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games, 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record and 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall. The Magic are 6-0 ATS in their last six home games, 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 23-8 in the last 31 meetings overall and the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Orlando.
The Lakers will be a little shorthanded again as Anthony Davis and Juan Toscano-Anderson are both out, while the Magic are still missing Jalen Suggs and Chuma Okeke. The Lakers could really do with a win to get their season back on track, but they are banged up and are coming into this one fresh off a tough loss to the Mavericks. Conversely, the Magic have been one of the hottest teams in the league and they have the advantage of extra rest as they haven’t played since Friday. I’m sure we will get a big game out of James who will lead the way for the Lakers, but I’d rather stick with the surging Magic who will be up for this contest.
