The Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks duke it out at Madison Square Garden on Christmas Day.
The Philadelphia 76ers have been in great form as they’ve won 10 of their last 13 games overall and they will be eager to build on their current seven-game win streak after sneaking past the Clippers in a 119-114 home win on Friday. Joel Embiid led the team with 44 points on 18 of 30 shooting, James Harden racked up a triple-double of 20 points with 11 rebounds and 21 assists while De’Anthony Melton and Shake Milton each scored 13 points. As a team, the 76ers shot 53 percent from the field and 12 of 29 from the 3-point line as they struggled to contain the Clippers in the first half and trailed by as many as 20 points, but they didn’t panic and came back strong with 68 points in the second half to earn one of their best wins of the season.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in fine form as they’ve won nine of their last 13 games overall, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight loss after falling just short against the Bulls in a 118-117 loss on Friday. RJ Barrett led the team with 44 points, seven rebounds and four assists on 14 of 20 shooting, Julius Randle added 29 points with 12 rebounds and two blocks while Immanuel Quickley chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Knicks shot 50 percent from the field and 16 of 35 from the 3-point line as they poured in 38 points in the second quarter to overcome an early deficit and take the lead into the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t get the stops in crunch time and lost at the buzzer thanks to the Bulls’ DeMar DeRozan who drained the game-winner to steal the game from them.
Looking at the betting trends, the 76ers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games, 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a winning record and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Knicks are 4-9-2 ATS in their last 15 home games, 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings overall and the under is 5-1 in the last six meetings in New York.
The 76ers are shorthanded again as Tyrese Maxey is still out, but they are coming into this meeting with plenty of momentum with players like Embiid and Harden in red-hot form. The Knicks look to have cooled off from their win streak as they are coming into this one fresh off a tough loss to the Bulls and I think they’ll have trouble against this 76ers team. You could make an argument for either side here, but with the line so short, I’ll lean towards the 76ers to get the win in this spot.
