The San Antonio Spurs and the Orlando Magic collide at the Amway Center on Friday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in decent form as they’ve won four of their last seven games, but they will be hoping to bounce back here after getting stopped by the shorthanded Pelicans in a 126-117 road loss last night. Jeremy Sochan led the team in scoring with 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists, Tre Jones added 19 points, Devin Vassell chipped in with 10 points, nine rebounds and five assists while Josh Richardson added 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Spurs shot 47 percent from the field and nine of 28 from the 3-point line, but most of this game was played in garbage time as the Spurs were never truly in the contest after getting outscored by 37-17 in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have caught fire with seven wins in their past eight games and they will be eager to stay hot after taking down the Rockets in a 116-110 road win on Wednesday. Franz Wagner led the team with 25 points on nine of 15 shooting, Paolo Banchero added 23 points with 13 rebounds and three assists while Cole Anthony chipped in with 15 points and six assists off the bench. As a team, the Magic shot 45 percent from the field and 11 of 37 from the 3-point line as they struggled in the first half and trailed by as many as 15 points, but they flipped the script to dominate the second half by 62-46 to pull off the impressive comeback victory.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games, 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a losing record and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games overall. The Magic are 5-0 ATS in their last five home games, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 9-0 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the over is 6-2 in the last eight meetings overall, the Spurs are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Orlando and the Spurs are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Spurs are shorthanded again as Keldon Johnson is still out with a hamstring injury, while the Magic will again be missing Jalen Suggs, Wendell Carter Jr, Gary Harris and Chuma Okeke are all out. The Spurs are coming into this with some decent momentum with four wins in their past seven games, but it’s going to be tough to keep it up on zero days rest. The Magic have quietly been one of the hottest teams in the league lately and they have the advantage of extra rest as they haven’t played since Wednesday. I expect the Spurs to hang around in the first half, but in the end, I think the Magic pull away for the win and cover at home.
