The Utah Jazz and the Cleveland Cavaliers duke it out at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Monday night.
The Utah Jazz have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost four of their last seven games and they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after getting destroyed by the Bucks in a 123-97 road loss on Saturday. Lauri Markkanen and Malik Beasley each scored 18 points, Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 14 points while Jordan Clarkson chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Jazz shot just 45 percent from the field and 16 of 47 from the 3-point line as they struggled to get going and scored just 22 points in the first quarter to trail by nine points going into halftime and things only got worse in the fourth quarter where they got outscored by 31-14. Mike Conley had a quiet game of just four points on two of six shooting while Jarred Vanderbilt finished scoreless on zero of four shooting.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been on a nice run as they’ve won five of their last seven games and they will be aiming for a fourth straight victory after outlasting the Mavericks in a 100-99 overtime win on Saturday. Donovan Mitchell led the way with 25 points, Darius Garland added 18 points with 12 assists and four steals while Evan Mobley chipped in with 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Cavaliers shot just 42 percent from the field and seven of 36 from the 3-point line as they clawed their way back from an early 10-point deficit to send the game into overtime where they restricted the Mavericks to just three points to escape with the hard-fought victory.
Looking at the betting trends, the Jazz are 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games against a team with a winning record and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games following a loss of more than 10 points. The Cavaliers are 0-5 ATS in their last five games following a win, 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record.
Head to head, the under is 9-2-1 in the last 12 meetings overall, the Jazz are 9-2-2 ATS in the last 13 meetings overall and the Jazz are 5-1-1 ATS in the last seven meetings in Cleveland.
The Jazz are shorthanded again as Collin Sexton is out and Kelly Olynyk is listed as questionable, while the Cavaliers have ruled out Lamar Stevens for this one. The Jazz were looking good with a couple of wins over the Pelicans before they ran into the Bucks on Saturday, while the Cavaliers have been consistently collecting wins thanks to their strong backcourt. Conley has really been struggling for the Jazz lately, while Mitchell and Garland have been sensational for the Cavaliers. It’s tempting to take the Jazz with the points, but the Cavaliers are 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 home games and I think they can hold the fort in this spot.
