The San Antonio Spurs invade the Toyota Center to battle the Houston Rockets on Monday night.
The San Antonio Spurs look to have cooled off from their three-game win streak as they are now hoping to avoid a third straight loss after falling to the Heat in a 111-101 loss on Saturday. Keldon Johnson led the way with 22 points, Devin Vassell added 18 points while Zach Collins chipped in with 13 points and five assists off the bench. As a team, the Spurs shot just 42 percent from the field and 10 of 27 from the 3-point line which was good enough to lead for most of the game, but they couldn’t find their offense when it mattered most as they scored just 17 points in the fourth quarter to allow the Heat to pull away in the end. Tre Jones had a night to forget as he scored just nine points on two of 10 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have been in decent form as they’ve split their last eight games, but they will be hoping to stop a two-game skid after getting routed by the Trail Blazers in a 107-95 loss on Saturday. Jalen Green led the team with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists while Kevin Porter Jr, Kenyon Martin Jr and Tari Eason each scored 13 points. As a team, the Rockets shot just 40 percent from the field and a miserly three of 29 from the 3-point line as they allowed the Trail Blazers off to a quick start and trailed by six points at halftime and things only worsened in the third quarter where they scored just 14 points to fall behind by as many as 22 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall, 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record and 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games overall. The Rockets are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games following a loss, 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight home games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a double-digit loss at home.
Head to head, the under is 15-5 in the last 20 meetings in Houston, the Spurs are 8-3-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings overall and the Spurs are 3-1-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Houston.
The Spurs are keeping an eye on Romeo Langford and Keldon Johnson who are both questionable for this one, while the Rockets have ruled out Garrison Matthews due to an illness. The Spurs have fallen back to earth with a couple of losses on the trot and they could be missing a chunk of their scoring if Johnson isn’t able to suit up, so I’ll stick with the improving Rockets who are a solid 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games.
