The Atlanta Hawks and the Charlotte Hornets duke it out at the Spectrum Center on Friday night.
The Atlanta Hawks have been in a major slump as they’ve lost eight of their last 11 games and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting routed by the Magic in a 135-124 road loss on Wednesday. DeAndre Hunter led the way with 25 points, six rebounds and three assists, Trae Young added 19 points with 16 assists while Bogdan Bogdanovic chipped in with 17 points off the bench. As a team, the Hawks shot 50 percent from the field and 12 of 35 from the 3-point line, but they weren’t switched on defensively and got absolutely torched in the first quarter by 50-22 which they could never overcome.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in a slump of their own as they’ve lost seven of their last eight games and they will be aiming to arrest a six-game slide after falling short to the Pistons in a 141-134 overtime loss on Wednesday. Kelly Oubre Jr. led the team with 28 points on 10 of 27 shooting, Terry Rozier added 25 points, LaMelo Ball tallied 23 points with 11 assists while Jalen McDaniels chipped in with 21 points on seven of nine shooting off the bench. As a team, the Hornets shot just 41 percent from the field and 17 of 51 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from a 13-point deficit to extend the game, only to come up short in overtime where they allowed the Pistons to score the final nine points to steal the game from them.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record, 20-41 ATS in their last 61 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. The Hornets are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six home games against a team with a losing road record and 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 home games against a team with a road record below .400.
Head to head, the under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings overall and the Hawks are 4-10-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings in Charlotte.
The Hawks will be shorthanded again as Dejounte Murray, John Collins and Clint Capela are all out, while the Hornets are still missing Mark Williams, Dennis Smith Jr and Gordon Hayward. The Hawks are getting to the stage where they will take any win they can get, but they’ve really struggled lately and are coming into this one fresh off a bad loss to the lowly Magic. You couldn’t really bet on either team with much confidence, but I’ll lean towards the Hawks in a close one.
