The Phoenix Suns invade the Toyota Center to take on the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night.
The Phoenix Suns have been in a major slump as they’ve lost five of their last six games overall and they will be hoping to snap a four-game slide after getting stopped by the Pelicans in a 129-124 overtime road loss on Sunday. DeAndre Ayton led the team with 28 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, Mikal Bridges added 27 points while Cameron Payne chipped in with 17 points off the bench. As a team, the Suns shot 46 percent from the field and 13 of 38 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from a 15-point deficit to extend the game, only to come up short in overtime where they managed just seven points. Chris Paul had a night to forget as he finished with just six points on three of 10 shooting before fouling out on an offensive foul.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have been in decent shape as they’ve won three of their past five games and they will be hoping to stay hot after sneaking past the Bucks in a 97-92 home win on Sunday. Jalen Green led the way with 30 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Kevin Porter Jr. added 18 points with seven assists while Kenyon Martin Jr. chipped in with 10 points off the bench. As a team, the Rockets shot 44 percent from the field and just six of 27 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in trouble after trailing by nine points in the third quarter, but they scrambled on the defensive end and held the Bucks to just 13 points in the fourth quarter to sneak away with the upset win. Jabari Smith Jr. had a rough night as he finished with just six points on one of nine shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss and 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall. The Rockets are 5-0 ATS in their last five home games and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games against a team with a losing road record.
Head to head, the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings overall and the Suns are 25-9 ATS in the last 34 meetings in Houston.
The Suns will be shorthanded again as Devin Booker, Cameron Johnson and Duane Washington Jr. are all still out. The Rockets have come to life with three wins in their past five games after struggling all season and they would’ve taken so much confidence from their upset win over the Bucks on Sunday. The Suns are clearly the better team and they shouldn’t have any problem getting the win here, but they’ve been going their worst slump in the last few seasons and I think the young Rockets can take advantage in this spot. The line is a little shorter than I thought it would be, but I think the Rockets hang around long enough to get the cover here.
