The Los Angeles Lakers and the Detroit Pistons collide at Little Caesars Arena on Sunday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have cooled off a bit as they’re now hoping to avoid a fourth straight defeat after getting routed by the 76ers in a 133-122 overtime road loss on Friday. Anthony Davis led the way with 31 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks, Austin Reaves added 25 points on nine of 15 shooting off the bench, Russell Westbrook tallied a triple-double of 12 points with 11 rebounds and 11 assists, while LeBron James chipped in with 23 points and six assists. As a team, the Lakers shot 50 percent from the field and 11 of 31 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from an 18-point deficit to force overtime in a wild fourth quarter finish, only to go ice-cold in overtime where they managed just two points to allow the 76ers off the hook in the end.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have been in a real slump as they’ve lost six of their last eight games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling to the Grizzlies in a 114-103 road loss on Friday. Bojan Bogdanovic led the team with 19 points, Marvin Bagley added 14 points with nine rebounds and four blocks off the bench while Isaiah Stewart chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Pistons shot just 40 percent from the field and 11 of 35 from the 3-point line as they fell behind right away, allowing 34 points in the first quarter, before they leaked 37 points in the third quarter to fall behind by as many as 22 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 road games, 7-0 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games following a loss of more than 10 points. The Pistons are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss of more than 10 points and 7-2-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings overall, the Lakers are 0-6 ATS in the last six meetings in Detroit and the Lakers are 1-6 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
The Lakers will be kicking themselves as they had a free throw to win the game in regulation after rallying all the way back from an 18-point deficit against the 76ers, but they weren’t able to get it done. The Pistons haven’t been able to get anything going lately and they just got blown out by the Grizzlies, so they will take any win they can get at this point. The Lakers are 0-6 ATS in the last six meetings in Detroit, but they really need a win to get back on track and I think the line is just short enough here.
