The New York Knicks invade the Spectrum Center to take on the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night.
The New York Knicks have been in decent shape as they’ve split their last eight games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after routing the Hawks in a 113-89 home win on Wednesday. Julius Randle led the team with 34 points, 17 rebounds and five assists, Quentin Grimes added 23 points on eight of 11 shooting while RJ Barrett chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Knicks shot 44 percent from the field and 17 of 36 from the 3-point line as they dominated right from the start and took a 12-point lead into halftime before they exploded for 36 points in the third quarter to push the margin out to 28 points at one stage. Jalen Brunson had a night to forget as he scored just eight points on two of 14 shooting and the Knicks got a little lucky in the first quarter as the Hawks lost their second best player, Dejounte Murray to injury which had them struggling for the entire game.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in a slump as they’ve lost seven of their last 10 games and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after getting stopped by the Nets in a 122-116 road loss on Wednesday. Terry Rozier led the team with 29 points and five assists on 13 of 24 shooting, Kelly Oubre Jr added 28 points while Jalen McDaniels chipped in with 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 53 percent from the field and 10 of 24 from the 3-point line as they struggled to contain the Nets early on and fell behind by as many as 23 points before they rallied with 61 points in the first half to make it interesting late.
Looking at the betting trends, the Knicks are 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record, 17-6 ATS in their last 23 road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Hornets are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games, 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven games following a loss and 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the over is 23-11-2 in the last 36 meetings overall, the Knicks are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Charlotte and the Knicks are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Knicks are shorthanded again as Obi Toppin and Ryan Arcidiacono are both out, while the Hornets have ruled out Mark Williams, Dennis Smith Jr and LaMelo Ball. The Knicks are coming into this one as the team in better shape and they would’ve taken plenty of confidence from their dominant win over the Hawks on Wednesday. The Hornets have been playing better basketball lately and they were competitive in their narrow loss to the Nets, but I think the Knicks represent decent value at the short line in this spot.
