The Los Angeles Clippers invade the FTX Arena to do battle with the Miami Heat on Thursday night.
The Los Angeles Clippers have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost three of their past four games and they will be hoping to bounce back after coming up short against the lowly Magic in a 116-111 overtime road loss last night. Terance Mann led the team in scoring with 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists off the bench, Nicolas Batum and Ivica Zubac each scored 16 points while Reggie Jackson chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Clippers shot just 41 percent from the field and 15 of 41 from the 3-point line as they squandered two double-digit leads in regulation before they missed chances to win at the buzzer and in the overtime period. Kawhi Leonard had a rough night as he scored just 14 points on four of 15 shooting while Paul George scored just 11 points on three of 12 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Miami Heat have been in a decent form as they’ve won four of their last seven games, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting routed by the slumping Pistons in a 116-96 loss on Tuesday. Tyler Herro led the team with 34 points and six assists on 12 of 17 shooting, Bam Adebayo added 21 points with 15 rebounds while Max Strus chipped in with 11 points. As a team, the Heat shot just 42 percent from the field and 10 of 32 from the 3-point line as they got off to a solid start to take a narrow lead into halftime, only to get blown out by 69-46 in the second half as they had no answer for the Pistons’ Bojan Bogdanovic who torched them for 31 points with seven 3-pointers.
Looking at the betting trends, the Clippers are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games against a team with a winning home record and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Heat are 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 home games, 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games against a team with a winning record and 8-17-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 6-0 in the last six meetings overall, the Clippers are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and the Clippers are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Miami.
The Clippers could be shorthanded again as Norman Powell, John Wall, Marcus Morris and Luke Kennard are all listed on the injury report, while the Heat are keeping an eye on Dewayne Dedmon, Gabe Vincent and Jimmy Butler who are all questionable. The Clippers looked to have the win locked up multiple times last night, but they never put away the Magic and got burned in overtime for one of their worst losses of the season. Meanwhile, the Heat have continued to struggle due to all the injuries and their confidence took another shot after getting blown out by the lowly Pistons on Tuesday. You couldn’t back either team with much confidence these days, but the Heat are only 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 home games, so I’ll lean towards the Clippers who are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Miami.
