The Charlotte Hornets and the Brooklyn Nets collide at the Barclays Center on Wednesday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in a rut as they’ve lost six of their last nine games overall and they will be hoping to stop a two-game skid after falling just short to the Clippers in a 119-117 loss on Monday. Kelly Oubre Jr. led the team with 29 points on 10 of 23 shooting, PJ Washington added 26 points while Terry Rozier added 22 points with eight assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 48 percent from the field and 12 of 34 from the 3-point line as they used a 21-6 run in the third quarter to overcome an early 13-point deficit to lead by nine points, only to get run down in the fourth quarter where they leaked 35 points to finish painfully short.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been in good form as they’ve won seven of their last 10 games, but they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after getting routed by the Celtics in a 103-92 loss on Sunday. Kevin Durant led the team with 31 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Kyrie Irving added 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Joe Harris chipped in with 13 points but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the Nets shot just 40 percent from the field and nine of 26 from the 3-point line as they struggled to contain the Celtics from the start and trailed by 12 points going into halftime. The Nets rallied behind their defense to hold the Celtics to just 13 points in the third quarter, but they couldn’t capitalize on those stops and it cost them in the fourth quarter. Royce O’Neale had a night to forget as he finished with just six points on two of 12 shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 5-0-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss, 21-10-2 ATS in their last 33 road games and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Nets are 13-36-2 ATS in their last 51 home games, 3-9-2 ATS in their last 14 games against a team with a losing record and 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss.
Head to head, the under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings overall.
The Hornets will again be shorthanded as LaMelo Ball, Mark Williams and Dennis Smith Jr are all out, while the Nets have ruled out Ben Simmons and they have Edmond Sumner as questionable. The Hornets have come to life with three wins in their past six games and they were more than competitive in their narrow loss to the Clippers on Monday, but the Nets will be kicking themselves after getting blown out by the Celtics in their last game and I think they’ll take out their frustrations on the Magic in this spot.
