The Atlanta Hawks invade Madison Square Garden to battle the New York Knicks on Wednesday night.
The Atlanta Hawks have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their last six games and they will be hoping to bounce back after coming up short against the Thunder in a 121-114 loss on Monday. Dejounte Murray led the team with 24 points on 10 of 21 shooting, Trae Young added 23 points with 10 assists, Bogdan Bogdanovic added 17 points off the bench while Clint Capela tallied 14 points with 16 rebounds. As a team, the Hawks shot 43 percent from the field and 13 of 38 from the 3-point line as they poured in 59 points in the first half to lead for most of the contest, until the fourth quarter where they couldn’t put a lid on Shai Gilgeoous-Alexander who led the Thunder on a late rally to steal the game in the end.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in a slump as they’ve lost six of their last nine games, but they will be hoping to build some momentum after taking down the Cavaliers in a 92-81 home win on Sunday. Jalen Brunson led the team with 23 points, Julius Randle added 18 points, with nine rebounds and four assists while RJ Barrett chipped in with 15 points and eight rebounds. As a team, the Knicks shot 40 percent from the field and just five of 29 from the 3-point line, but this win was all about their defense as they held the Cavaliers to just 16 points in the first quarter to open an early lead which only grew in the second half as the Knicks never let up.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 11-24 ATS in their last 35 road games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Knicks are 6-18-2 ATS in their last 26 home games, 1-7-1 ATS in their last nine games following a win and 1-4 ATS in their last five games playing on two days’ rest.
Head to head, the under is 7-3 in in the last 10 meetings overall and the under is 5-1 in the last six meetings in New York.
The Hawks will again be without John Collins, De’Andre Hunter and Trent Forrest, while the Knicks are at full strength except for Ryan Arcidiacono who is out with an ankle sprain. The Hawks have been well below their best lately and they will be disappointed with their loss to the Thunder, but Trae Young seems to always lift for the Knicks, so I’ll lean towards the Hawks to win in a close one.
