The San Antonio Spurs play host to the Phoenix Suns at the AT&T Center on Sunday night.
The Phoenix Suns have been in great form as they’ve won seven of their last nine games overall, but they will be eager to bounce back in this one after having their six-game win streak snapped by the lowly Rockets in a 122-121 loss on Friday. Devin Booker led the team with 41 points and eight assists on 15 of 25 shooting, Mikal Bridges added 22 points while Cameron Payne tallied 20 points with 12 assists and four steals. As a team, the Suns shot 52 percent from the field and 17 of 37 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 36 points in the first quarter to build an early 16-point lead, but they never put away the Rockets and it cost them as the Rockets outscored them by 30-17 in the final 9:20 to steal the game from them.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been absolutely ice-cold as they’ve lost 15 of their last 16 games overall and they will be hoping to put an end to a 10-game slide after getting routed by the Pelicans in a 117-99 loss on Friday. Devin Vassell led the team with 25 points on nine of 23 shooting, Keldon Johnson added 15 points while Keita Bates-Diop and Romeo Langford each scored 10 points. As a team, the Spurs shot just 38 percent from the field and 11 of 39 from the 3-point line as they took it to the Pelicans early in the game to take the narrow lead into halftime, but they couldn’t maintain that pace in the second half where they were outscored by 68-47. Zach Collins had a rough night as he finished with just seven points on three of 11 shooting while Tre Jones scored just nine points on three of nine shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 6-0 ATS in their last six games following a loss and 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against a team below .400. The Spurs are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games, 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 0-8 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Head to head, the Suns are 1-3-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the Suns are 4-1-1 ATS in the last six meetings in San Antonio.
The Suns will again be without Chris Paul, Torrey Craig and Cameron Johnson, while the Spurs could be even more shorthanded than usual as Romeo Langford and Josh Richardson are listed as questionable. The Suns will be so disappointed with how they failed to close out their last game and I think they got just the right opponent to take their frustrations out on. The Spurs haven’t been able to get anything going with all the injuries they’ve had to deal with and I don’t expect things to get better for them in this one.
