The Boston Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets duke it out at the Barclays Center on Sunday night.
The Boston Celtics have been in red-hot form as they’ve won 14 of their last 16 games, but they will be looking to bounce back in this one after having their five-game win streak halted by the Heat in a 120-116 overtime loss on Friday. Jaylen Brown led the team with 37 points, 14 rebounds and five assists, Marcus Smart added 18 points with nine assists while Jayson Tatum chipped in with 14 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Celtics shot 46 percent from the field and 15 of 45 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in control after building a 13-point lead, but they allowed the Heat to hang around and it cost them as they scored just six points in the overtime period. Tatum has been on fire for the Celtics, but he had a night to forget as he shot just five of 18 from the field while committing five turnovers.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been in great shape as they’ve won seven of their last nine games and they will be looking to build on their four-game win streak after beating the Raptors in a 114-105 win on Friday. Kyrie Irving led the way with 27 points and five assists, Kevin Durant tallied 17 points with nine rebounds and seven assists, Joe Harris scored 17 points on six of eight shooting while Nic Claxton chipped in with 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. As a team, the Nets shot 53 percent from the field and 11 of 32 from the 3-point line as they dominated right from the start, outscoring the Raptors by 41-17 in the first quarter to allow them to cruised the rest of the way unchallenged.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 21-9-1 ATS in their last 31 road games, 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Nets are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games following a win, 14-37-2 ATS in their last 53 home games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record.
Head to head, the over is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings overall, the Celtics are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and the Celtics are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Brooklyn.
The Celtics will again be without Robert Williams and Marcus Smart is listed as day to day, while the Nets will again be missing Ben Simmons and Yuta Watanabe. The Celtics are coming into this one as the hottest team in the league and fresh off a tough overtime loss, so they will surely come out firing against this Nets team who are starting to get hot themselves. I’m tempted to take the Nets as the home underdog, but the Celtics have been the more consistent team and they are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
