The Dallas Mavericks travel to Madison Square Garden to do battle with the New York Knicks on Saturday afternoon.
The Dallas Mavericks have been in a real slump as they’ve lost five of their past six games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling painfully short to the lowly Pistons in a 131-125 overtime road loss on Thursday. Luka Doncic led the team with 35 points and 10 assists, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 26 points while Christian Wood provided the spark off the bench with 25 points on 10 of 13 shooting. As a team, the Mavericks shot 53 percent from the field and 19 of 46 from the 3-point line as they rallied all the way back from a 12-point fourth quarter deficit to extend the game, only to see the Pistons run away with it in the end.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in a real funk as they’ve lost five of their last seven games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting stopped by the Bucks in a 109-103 loss on Wednesday. RJ Barrett led the team with 26 points on eight of 15 shooting, Julius Randle added 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Mitchell Robinson chipped in with 15 points and 20 rebounds. As a team, the Knick shot 42 percent from the field and just six of 30 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the Bucks in a close contest, but they were always trailing on the scoreboard and just couldn’t get enough stops in the fourth quarter where they leaked 35 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 road games, 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games following a loss and 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The Knicks are 7-18-2 ATS in their last 27 home games, 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games following a loss and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games playing on two days rest.
Head to head, the under is 6-1 in the last seven meetings overall and the Mavericks are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Mavericks could really do with a win to get their season back on track as they’ve really been struggling lately and their confidence took a major hit from their loss to the lowly Pistons. The Knicks haven’t been much better, but they were competitive in their narrow loss to the red-hot Bucks and they are 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games following a loss. This is a tough one to pick, but the Mavericks are only 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings overall, so I’ll lean towards the Knicks to get the win at home in a close one.
