The Washington Wizards and the Charlotte Hornets duke it out at the Spectrum Center on Friday night.
The Washington Wizards have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their past five games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling short to the Nets in a 113-107 road loss on Wednesday. Kristaps Porzingis led the team with 27 points, 19 rebounds and two blocks while Kyle Kuzma and Bradley Beal each scored 25 points, but no other player scored more than eight points. As a team, the Wizards made the most of their size and outrebounded the Nets by 51-35, but they needed more support from their role players as they shot just 43 percent from the field and six of 24 from the 3-point line.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in a rut of their own as they’ve lost four of their past six games and they were on a two-game win streak before getting burned by the Celtics in a 140-105 road loss on Monday. Jalen McDaniels led the team in scoring with 24 points on nine of 12 shooting, Kelly Oubre Jr. added 22 points on 11 of 18 shooting while PJ Washington chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 48 percent from the field and 11 of 29 from the 3-point line, but they were just never in the contest after getting outscored by an embarrassing 45-19 in the first quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 0-2-2 ATS in their last four road games, 10-29-1 ATS in their last 40 games against a team with a losing record and 1-5-2 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Hornets are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games following a loss and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 8-1 in the last nine meetings overall, the Wizards are 2-8 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Charlotte and the Wizards are 2-7 ATS in the last nine meetings overall.
The Wizards are a little shorthanded again as Rui Hachimura is still out, while the Hornets are still missing Dennis Smith Jr, LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward. The Wizards come into this a little low on form, but they were close against the Nets in their last outing and would love to get back in the win column any way that they can. The Hornets will surely come out firing after getting embarrassed in their last game, but I don’t think it will be enough against the Wizards who are looking better with each big game that Porzingis gives them.
