The Orlando Magic pay a visit to the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center on Monday night.
The Orlando Magic have been in a slump as they’ve lost six of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to arrest a four-game slide after getting blown off the floor against the 76ers in a 133-103 loss last night. Paolo Banchero led the team with 18 points, Franz Wagner added 17 points while RJ Hampton chipped in with 11 points off the bench. As a team, the Magic shot 45 percent from the field and 12 of 40 from the 3-point line as they got off to a terrible start and never recovered after getting dominated by 31-13 in the second quarter. On the defensive end, the Magic allowed the 76ers to shoot a season-high 64 percent from the field, all without their best player Joel Embiid.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been in decent shape as they’ve won four of their last six games overall and they will be eager to stay hot after routing the shorthanded Trail Blazers in a 111-97 home win last night. Kevin Durant led the team with 31 points and five assists on 12 of 20 shooting, Seth Curry drained seven 3-pointers to finish with 29 points off the bench while Kyrie Irving chipped in with 22 points and six assists. As a team, the Nets shot 52 percent from the field and 15 of 35 from the 3-point line, but this win was more about their defense as they struggled to gain any separation until the fourth quarter where they held the Trail Blazers to just 17 points to pull away and win comfortably in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Magic are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 road games and 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games against a team with a losing record. The Nets are 13-38-1 ATS in their last 52 home games, 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 9-27-1 ATS in their last 37 games against a team below .400.
Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall, the Magic are 9-4 ATS in the last 13 meetings overall and the Magic are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings in Brooklyn.
The Magic could be severely shorthanded again as Kevon Harris, Chuma Okeke, Jalen Suggs, Wendell Carter Jr and Markelle Fultz are all listed as questionable while the Nets are just about at full strength except for Yuta Watanabe who is out with a hamstring strain. The Magic have been plagued by injuries all season and they are coming into this one low on confidence after losing by 30 points to the depleted 76ers last night. The Nets have really started to turn their season around over the past couple weeks and they look so much more dangerous when Curry is contributing off the bench for them. The Magic should be able to hang around in the first half, but when it’s all said and done, I think the Nets should be able to pull away for the win and cover here.
