The Charlotte Hornets and the Boston Celtics duke it out at the TD Garden on Monday night.
The Charlotte Hornets were one of the coldest teams in the league through their first 18 games, but they are suddenly aiming for a third straight victory after sneaking past the Timberwolves in a 110-108 home win on Friday. Kelly Oubre Jr. led the team with 28 points on 10 of 21 shooting, Terry Rozier added 22 points with eight assists while PJ Washington chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 44 percent from the field and eight of 25 from the 3-point line as they struggled to get going and trailed by 13 points in the first half, but they came alive with 39 points in the third quarter to lead by as many as 14 points which proved to be just enough in the end as the Timberwolves rallied late.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been on fire as they’ve won 12 of their past 13 games overall and they will be eager to build on their three-game win streak after blowing past the Wizards in a 130-121 home win last night. Jaylen Brown led the team with 36 points on 13 of 23 shooting, Malcolm Brogdon added 17 points, six rebounds and four assists while Derrick White chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Celtics shot 55 percent from the field and 16 of 34 from the 3-point line as they jumped all over the Wizards right from the start and poured 123 points in the first three quarters to lead by as many as 26 points before a late rally from the Wizards kept the final scores respectable.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five road games, 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 games playing on two days’ rest and 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games overall. The Celtics are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days rest and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the Hornets are 2-8-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Boston and the Hornets are 6-19-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings overall.
The Hornets will again be shorthanded as Gordon Hayward, LaMelo Ball and Dennis Smith Jr are out, while the Celtics are still without Jayson Tatum and Robert Williams. The Hornets were one of the coldest teams in the league before they strung together two wins on the trot, but it’ll be tough to keep that win streak alive against this Celtics team who are still so tough to beat even when Tatum doesn’t suit up. The line is a little hefty, but the Celtics are clearly the team in better form and they should have more than enough firepower to get the job done at home.
