The Portland Trail Blazers invade the Barclays Center to take on the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday afternoon.
The Portland Trail Blazers have been in a rut as they’ve lost five of their past seven games, but they will be feeling better after snapping a four-game skid with a 132-129 overtime road win over the Knicks on Friday. Jerami Grant led the team with 44 points, Anfernee Simons added 38 points with five assists on 13 of 25 shooting while Jusuf Nurkic chipped in with 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. As a team, the Trail Blazers shot 49 percent from the field and 10 of 32 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the Knicks in a close contest, before escaping with the narrow win in overtime. Simons was a standout for the Trail Blazers as he made the clutch free throws at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime where he drained two important 3-pointers.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost four of their past seven games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting routed by the Pacers in a 128-117 road loss on Friday. Kevin Durant led the team with 36 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons each scored 20 points while Nic Claxton chipped in with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. As a team, the Nets shot 53 percent from the field and 15 of 41 from the 3-point line as they poured in 35 points in the first quarter to open an early 12-point lead, but their defense cost them again as they held the lead until the fourth quarter where the Pacers exploded for 40 points to blow them away in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trail Blazers are 1-5 ATS in their last six Sunday games, 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games and 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games overall. The Nets are 13-38-1 ATS in their last 52 home games, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a loss of more than 10 points and 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a loss.
Head to head, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall and the Trail Blazers are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings in Brooklyn.
The Trail Blazers are going to be shorthanded once again as Damian Lillard and Keon Johnson are both out while Drew Eubanks is listed as questionable. The Nets are just about at full strength for this one except for Yuta Watanabe who is out with a hamstring injury. The Trail Blazers are capable of pulling off the upset despite being so banged up as the Nets’ defensive struggles will keep them in the game. I’m sure the Nets will be good enough to get the win at home, but I think the Trail Blazers can hang around right till the end if someone like Nurkic can have a big game in the paint.
