The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Charlotte Hornets collide at the Spectrum Center on Friday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are starting to turn things around with five wins on the trot and they will be hoping to stay hot after routing the Pacers in a 115-101 road win on Wednesday. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 23 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, Rudy Gobert added 21 points and 16 rebounds on nine of 11 shooting, Anthony Edwards added 19 points while D’Angelo Russell tallied 15 points with 12 assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot a sizzling 61 percent from the field and eight of 22 from the 3-point line as they held the Pacers to just 21 points in the first quarter to take the early lead, before pouring in 62 points in the second half to pull away and win big in the end despite committing 23 turnovers.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been struggling to get going this season as they’ve lost 14 of their first 19 games, but they will be eager to build some momentum after sneaking past the shorthanded 76ers in a 107-101 win on Wednesday. Terry Rozier led the team with 22 points and six assists, PJ Washington added 19 points while Mason Plumlee chipped in with 11 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 47 percent from the field and six of 23 from the 3-point line as they got off to a sluggish start and trailed by 13 points in the first quarter, but they responded with 32 points in the second quarter to erase the deficit, before they started to pull away thanks to a pivotal 10-2 run in the fourth quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games following a win, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Hornets are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings overall, the Timberwolves are 0-4-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the Timberwolves are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Charlotte.
The Timberwolves are going to be a little shorthanded as Taurean Prince, Jordan McLaughlin and Kyle Anderson are all out, while the Hornets have ruled out Dennis Smith Jr and LaMelo Ball with Gordon Hayward listed as questionable. The Timberwolves are clearly the team in better form as the Hornets were absolutely ice-cold before their upset win over the 76ers on Wednesday. The Hornets are capable of pulling off the upset if Rozier can get hot again, but the Timberwolves have been the more reliable team and I think they can get it done at the short line in this spot.
