The Portland Trail Blazers and the Charlotte Hornets duke it out at the Spectrum Center on Wednesday night.
The Portland Trail Blazers have been in fine form as they’ve won seven of their first 10 games overall and they will be looking to stay hot after sneaking past the Heat in a 110-107 road win on Monday. Anfernee Simons led the way with 25 points, Jerami Grant added 23 points on nine of 15 shooting, Damian Lillard tallied 19 points with six assists while Josh Hart chipped in with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. As a team, the Trail Blazers shot 52 percent from the field and 16 of 37 from the 3-point line as they struggled for most of the game and trailed by as many as 15 points, but they stayed in the fight and exploded for 37 points in the fourth quarter to steal the game thanks to Hart who drained the game-winner at the buzzer.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in terrible shape as they’ve lost seven of their last eight games overall and they will be hoping to arrest a five-game slide after coming up short against the Wizards in a 108-100 loss on Monday. PJ Washington led the way with 25 points on 11 of 18 shooting, Kelly Oubre Jr. added 20 points while Terry Rozier chipped in with 19 points and five assists. As a team, the Hornets shot just 41 percent from the field and five of 32 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from an early 13-point deficit, only to leak 62 points in the second half to allow the Wizards to run away with it late.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trail Blazers are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a losing record and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Hornets are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five home games, 10-21-2 ATS in their last 33 games against a team above .600 and 0-4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-1-1 in the last seven meetings overall and the Trail Blazers are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall.
The Trail Blazers are shorthanded again as Gary Payton is still out, but they should have their key players ready as Damian Lillard, Anfernee Simons and Jusuf Nurkic are all listed as probable. The Hornets have already ruled out LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward again while Cody Martin is listed as doubtful. The money has been coming in for the Hornets to push the line down to 4.5 points, but I’m sticking with the more consistent Trail Blazers to continue their good run with another win and cover in this spot.
