The Detroit Pistons travel to the TD Garden to battle the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night.
The Detroit Pistons have been in a slump as they’ve lost eight of their first 11 games, but they will be eager to build some momentum after snapping a three-game skid with a 112-103 win over the Thunder on Monday. Saddiq Bey led the way with 25 points on eight of 17 shooting, Cade Cunningham added 21 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists while Jaden Ivey tallied 15 points with 11 rebounds and six assists. As a team, the Pistons shot just 41 percent from the field and nine of 33 from the 3-point line as they struggled to contain the Thunder in the first half and fell behind by 15 points going into halftime, but they exploded for 36 points in the third quarter to level the scores before they restricted the Thunder to just 18 points in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in fine form as they’ve won four of their past five games overall and they will be aiming for a fourth straight victory after outlasting the Grizzlies in a 109-106 road win on Monday. Jayson Tatum led the way with 39 points on 12 of 25 shooting, Jaylen Brown added 21 points with nine rebounds while Marcus Smart racked up 15 points with seven rebounds and 12 assists. As a team, the Celtics shot 46 percent from the field and 12 of 37 from the 3-point line as they squandered a 14-point lead they built, before they went on a pivotal 10-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull away and escape with the narrow win in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pistons are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games, 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Celtics are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against a team below .400 and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Head to head, the over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in Boston, the Pistons are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Boston and the Pistons are 8-0 ATS in the last eight meetings overall.
The Pistons could be shorthanded again as Marvin Bagley is listed as doubtful while Alec Burks is questionable with a foot injury. The Celtics are just about at full strength except for Robert Williams and Danilo Gallinari who are still out. The Pistons haven’t had much to cheer about this season, but they will be feeling much better after taking down the Thunder in an upset win on Monday to snap a three-game losing streak. However, the Celtics are coming into this meeting with plenty of momentum and they just took down the Grizzlies thanks to a yet another big game from Tatum. It’s hard to imagine anything but a win for the Celtics at home, but the line is so hefty and the Pistons are 8-0 ATS in the last eight meetings overall, so I’ll reluctantly lean towards the Pistons and the points in this one.
