The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons duke it out at Little Caesars Arena on Friday night.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been one of the surprise teams of the league as they are now gunning for a seventh straight win after outlasting the Celtics in a thrilling 114-113 overtime home win on Wednesday. Darius Garland made he season debut and led the way with 29 points and 12 assists, Donovan Mitchell added 25 points and six assists while Evan Mobley and Caris LeVert each scored 15 points. As a team, the Cavaliers shot just 42 percent from the field and 11 of 39 from the 3-point line as they squandered an 11-point lead to allow the Celtics to rally back and force overtime, but they opened the extra period on a pivotal 7-2 run to escape with the narrow win.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have really struggled so far this season as they’ve lost seven of their first nine games and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting thrashed by the Bucks in a 116-91 road loss on Wednesday. Saddiq Bey led the team in scoring with 22 points, Isaiah Stewart added 16 points with 10 rebounds while Bojan Bogdanovic chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Pistons shot just 41 percent from the field and 11 of 31 from the 3-point line as they struggled to find their offense from the start and got outscored by the Bucks in every quarter. The Pistons committed 21 turnovers as a team and seven of those turnovers belonged to Bogdanovic.
Looking at the betting trends, the Cavaliers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a losing record and 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall. The Pistons are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games against a team with a winning record, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a loss of more than 10 points and 23-11 ATS in their last 34 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 13-3-2 in the last 18 meetings overall and the Cavaliers are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Cavaliers could be severely shorthanded in this one as Darius Garland, Raul Neto and Donovan Mitchell are all listed as questionable, while the Pistons will again be missing Marvin Bagley and Alec Burks. The Cavaliers are currently one of the hottest teams in the league and they would’ve been big favorites in this one if not for the injury cloud hanging over the team. However, even if they go with a makeshift lineup, I’d still back the Cavaliers over the Pistons who will be low on confidence after getting blown out on Wednesday.
